Sometimes you choose to lie, not out of fear, not because you have done something wrong and not because you want to deceive anyone, rather you lie in order to preserve your (and others’) sanity.
Sanity, as in not straining your relations further, when you don’t want to argue any longer, or when you are tired of explaining without getting an ounce of understanding in return. When lines of communications are exhausted and virtues of Open Mindedness and Patience are strangled, tied with a rope around the neck and flung against the wall.
For all our technological advances, we remain prisoners of our own perceptions and bias. The Egocentric Bias, being the cruelest of all. After all, what can you do when someone chooses to reject anything that doesn’t fit their thoughts or opinions. You can’t show Red to one who insists on wearing a blindfold.
When the Ego grows larger than life, abominable oxymorons like “Alternative facts” emerge!
But doubt not, for the need for sanity does not make lying a virtue. It is still up to us to uphold what is true, despite all the ignorance, resistance or rejection we may be rewarded.
